This was the idea for my masthead, i like this font because it looks grungy and broken, it eminds me of teenagers and students. i cose red and white for the colour of my masthead because it represents london.

ANALYSIS OF DPS- THE FLY
PATRICK WOLF:
LAYOUT:
this interview with patrick wolf is layed out in a typical interview format, the simple question and answer format apart from the fact file in the beginning, it has simple facts about the artist fro e.g. producer, studio etc. this is so that the audience can automatically read through these facets and already know allot about the artist, they can know exactly who they are and what they do without having to read the entire article. the way the image is positioned relates to the contents page, in a calendar format with the large image on the top and writing underneath, this again makes the audience think this is an important article because it is part of their calendar if you will.
IMAGE:
The image is of a man on a piano and holding a microphone in what looks like a recording studio, there are musicians in the background playing and he is in the front. this image makes the audience think that this image captures the moment that this musician (Patrick Wolf) was making his album or music, so it gives them an inside look at how and what was going on during the process of this album being created. it also makes the audience feel as though they are part of that moment with the musician.
LANGUAGE:
The journalist addresses the artists in a very casual manor, he/she says "hi Patrick" as though they were bumping into an old friend, this makes the audience feel as though they know the artist, they feel like they are there with them in the interview.

SECOND ANALYSIS OF CONTENTS PAGE- THE FLY
This content page is layed out like a calendar, this is to show the audience that it is a new year, a new start for the fly magazine. It makes the audience feel like they will be there with you through the year because a calendar is something that will give you all your important dates, the magazine will give you all of the important music information. the contents page is also layed out in a list-type format, the contents are in neat columns, this layout is similar to the gig-lists that the fly are famous for. the audience relates this style to the listings and automatically they are reminded of all the wonderful ratings reviews and bands that are to come in the magazine. there is only one image used on this content page, it also fills up half of the page and it is above the columns, this signifies how important music is to the fly's reader. it comes on top of everything else and it plays a huge part in their lives.
image:
The image on this content page is a close up of a young woman's face, with nicely done hair and make-up, she has bright eyes and is giving a piercing look at the camera. the woman in the image could be an artist herself, or someone heavily involved in the music industry, we know this by her look, she looks determined and independent, as if even if you don't know who she is you want to or you should know who she is and what she does. her make-up, although well done does not look as professional as it could look, it looks as though it has been done how a teenage girl would do it, this is to make her look young and fresh, in keeping with the young audience. The lighting in the is image is over-exposed, this is to show the audience that they are going to get an in depth look into this woman and that the fly is going to tell you everything you need to know about her.
FIRST ANALYSIS OF CONTENTS PAGE-Q
Q
layout
in the contents page of Q magazine the layout is very organised, this is because the target audience is men aged between 35 and 50, therefore they are more sophisticated and mature.
images
there are two images on this page, the main dominant image is of the manic street preachers, this image fills up about half the page, showing that the audience is more interested in classic bands and classic music, however the other image is of radiohead, a fairly modern band. this shows that the audience is also interested in new and upcoming bands as well as classic bands such as the manic street preachers. The fact that the image takes up half the page shows that although the reader may be mature and has his own upper-middle class life, music still plays a large part in his life.
